Manny Yip is a visual artist born in 1994 and is currently based in Hong Kong. She received her BAFA from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University in 2017 and her Master of Fine Arts (First Class) in Visual Arts from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2023.
Yip's artistic practice is rooted in her upbringing in a small village, which sparked her exploration of the relationship and boundaries between the personal inner world and the externally constructed reality. Her works are inspired by everyday experiences, childhood memories and historical imaginings, reflecting her aspirations and reflections on personal identity. She excels in using painting and found objects to present a delicate interplay between familiarity and alienation, aiming to recreate forgotten fragments and various everyday objects through her creations. Yip's affinity for literature, storytelling, and horticulture is evident in her work, often capturing childhood memories and immersing herself in reality and imagination. She constructs unique spaces that embody buried emotions, thoughts and essential qualities, bridging the past and present. Her artworks explore themes of life, growth, norms, heritage and imagination. Her artistic practice encompasses painting and installation, and her works are held in private collections.
