On the Brink of Borrowed Time: To Stay / To Flee

To Stay/To Flee has been a dilemma for many generations in Hong Kong. The question of destiny in our own place is an inescapable curse to us all. In recent years, regrettably, the debate of whether to stay or to flee has become a talking point again.

Where are we going? Where are we returning to? What are we carrying with us when we travel? Do the time and date matter? Travelling to a place is temporary while drifting around may be an eternal one. Physically and metaphorically, the body is our luggage. We are forever caught between a rock and a hard place, unable to decide whether to flee or stay behind for good.

The exhibition space, designed as a virtual airport, displays the collaborative artwork of 12 pairs of artist and writer that all revolve around the difficult sentiments of To Stay/To Flee.

Although the world is different now, the desolation and loneliness of leaving or staying at a home that has changed forever are the same for all generations.

離留之間：文學 × 視藝展覽

為什麼香港人，總是過一段時間，就要思考「離開還是留下」這樣的命運抉擇？對此，歷來有許多解釋；雖然，它看來更像某種命運的詛咒。無論如何，這幾年，離留還是留下，又成為了香港人的熱話，不無唏噓地。

離開什麼？回到哪裡？我們帶著什麼東西旅行？日期時間重要嗎？旅行可能是短暫的狀態，漂泊卻可能是永恒的狀態。具體與抽象之間，行囊或者就是身體。我們是永遠在離與留之間選擇、游移不定？「離留之間」其實也意指展覽的空間佈置，它將是一個虛擬的機場。

本次展覽的十二位作家將各自與一位藝術家配對，爾後分為「離開」與「回來」兩組；作品與藝術品部分同時創作，部分是有文本為先；部分為前輩作家作品，是希望看到流離的同根，「蕭條異代不同時」。
